Flights and hotels all booked!
Flights! I'm impressed! See you there then smile :bounce:
Maybe we should form an S P members union.............I propose Mr MWM for shop steward and then while Mr M is busy I can keep Mrs M company....:giggle::giggle:
LOL...very funny..... and I think Mrs M might be too much for you to handle on your own Northy ;) I am in no way a union type of guy. But PRINCIPLES are something I like to uphold and being part of this select, and I think special community, I will always be ready to hold up the banner for fair play, decency, common sense and all that stuff. There is something fundamentally wrong with what has happened here and it seems the owners can't see that. I, for one, have no objection to the free lifetime membership deal to those deserving it - might even be something to look forward to as a loyalty bonus (HINT HINT). I don't even object if free membership was handed out to all and sundry in an effort to introduce new blood BUT the free bit should be limited in time. Like I said earlier we have a quality site and a load of quality people here and it's worth paying to keep it that way. If nothing else I want to see revenue coming into the site so Admin can keep enhancing the product. You have all contributed to the new feedback forum and the first sticky thread lists almost 30 things you/we all want. And free memberships doesn't pay for that does it. :bounce:
Oli and Maggie.....can I get in the bath with ya too:lick::lick: :moon:
My two pennies worth. No complaints handing out free memberships to those members that helped to develop and build the site and the community. Maybe lifetime is a bit over the top, but then it's SP's money. I have a big issue with free memberships to just anyone who happened to use the site back in 2005. There are enough wasters on the site as it is. What on earth were you thinking? No vetting process? To me that says you really don't give toss about the current membership. Paying a membership fee means something. Yes it's money in the bank for SP but it has worth and value to the members too. The more revenue SP raises allows re-investment into this site and community. All the things we ask for in Feedback require money to be invested (salaries if nothing else). Giving away memberships is dumb; we want improvements and enhancements and it takes investment (money). So FREE membership helps no one (paid or free members) and unless I'm missing something it does nothing for SP...except increase the 'live users' of the site. Why would they want to boost numbers and do it quickly? Any ideas people? Yeah, I had the same idea too! We looked at numerous FREE sites and they are either crap or just average. We have also looked at and joined several other paid sites that are also crap. So I am not saying that paying membership creates a quality site but it does eliminate the less 'serious' from bothering. Remember the old adage "you get what you pay for". SP is a good site, one of the best we've ever used and I think it's worth the membership. I like the idea that we can contact like-minded people who are also paying members and have the same or similar values to us. I also like the idea that GUESTS (free members) should be entirely temporary and that their profiles are taken offline after a SHORT trial period (1 month is long enough) and that their functionality is very limited (they can look but not touch). Personally I prefer to stay in quality hotels, drive a good car, drink nice wine, wear nice clothes and so on and I expect to pay for those things. The price tag for a 5 star life is...well, 5 stars. I don't want to stay in a 2 star place, or drive a 1967 Lada, shop at Matalan and drink Asda own brand lemonade - not even if it's free. I pay to ensure I get some exclusivity and some like minded thinking. And now I don't know that I'm getting that. And for the record, if I have offended anyone who is now a premium member but a freebie, worry not - that is not the intention. My gripe is purely with SP not you. My final words are addressed to SP: I suspect this issue wont simply fade away so if/when you respond to this thread on an official basis may I suggest you offer an explanation as to why you decided on this course and what you expected would be the outcome and more importantly the benefits. Also, assuming you are not simply selling the site(s) and you do want growth I am more than happy to do some research for you on marketing and advertising agencies that have experience in your area and can help grow the business - just ask. :bounce: These comments are Mr MWMs' alone. No animals were harmed in the making of this epic story.
Invisible for a day? Hmmm, might consider spending some quality time with the SP board of directors and find out how their minds work. It's credit crunch time, there's been some dissatisfaction from quite a few members, slow responses from Admin not helping, too many free members ... so what would you do to encourage quality paying members?* Oh I know...let's give out a bundle of free memberships...that'll help! * more on this subject in the main 'rant' post. :bounce:
.... They received an email from admin inviting them back to SP for FREE for a LIFETIME. Not only that but there have also been free memberships offered to newbies.
Have you seen or can you get a copy of one of these emails? Have you emailed or posted specifically to Admin - any response? Maybe it's about time we all voted with our feet huh! Not happy here! :bounce::-?

Funky...you've started something here babe... Mrs MWM did hers so I have to do mine now...:bounce: 1. Favourite food in all the world is Shepherds Pie and baked beans!!! 2. Love wheat beers, can't drink whiskey or brandy, love Pernod and Sancere (not together silly!) and adore Spain's summer tipple - tinto de verano. 3. Now a non-smoker (again). Only 3 months so far this time but had given up for over 14 years. 4. Can't stand soccer unless it's World Cup time, absolutely love rugby and American Football...even played as a tight end many years ago. 5. Avid poker fan. Playing Holdem for the last 4 years. Read lots of books, watch almost everything on TV about it....guess I'm addicted. 6. I don't gamble. Seriously! Never have, never will. Poker is a skill by the way. Risk yes but not a gamble. 7. Spent over 40 years wanting and wishing I could dance knowing I never could. Met Jan and we both learned together. Ceroc is great - a fusion of jive and salsa and translates to almost all music. (will PM Oli later!!) 8. Love card magic and close up magic. 9. Ran away from home at 15. Lived under a hedge for a month, managed to get a job and place to live for 3 months before they caught me in Cornwall. 10. Don't really like cities to live in, OK to visit. Granada is fabulous. Much prefer panoramic views of the country. Need to be able to see the horizon and sky..and mountains and sea. 11. First career (1973) was in computers well before PCs. My fist computer was a Honeywell 1250 running MOD1 MSR TR with 32K and required a whole room. Today you get 100 times more on a wrist watch! 12. My second career came from a sales role (1980s) that led to working for a London ad agency...that went bust in 1989. Been running my own ad agency since....1989! 13. SKY+ is the worlds best invention. I get to watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it. Fab!! 14. Suffered wanderlust since I was....probably 15. Seen quite a few places, loved them all, wanted to emigrate to them all too! But most of them wouldn't have me! So love to travel, hate coming back! 15. I'm the luckiest man in the world. Loved three women and three women loved me back and I have 4 fantastic kids to prove it and recently acquired 2 more fantastic girls! 16. But I'm seriously lucky to have met Jan but wish we had sooner. We are a perfect match in every way. Literally made for each other. 17. Did some modelling a few years back and may do more. Good fun, great money but hate the audition process. Also did quite a lot of extras work (The Bill, East Enders, Panorama, Dead Ringers, Ronnie Ancona etc) but only did one movie. 18. Love my XKR! Been a V8 fan since birth. Just love the warble. You should hear mine...very non-standard Jaguar! 19. Favourite film is still The Shawshank Redemption but I have 100s I love too. Love to go to the cinema! 20. Don't read as much as I used to but a big Robert Ludlum fan (well before his Bourne films came to fame). Read lots of film related biographies and quite a few poker books. 21. I love the internet. Couldn't live without it these days! 22. Got my one and only tattoo when I was 50 on the same day Jan got hers. Always wanted one, never had the courage. It's on the shoulder and is a tribal heart. 23. Capricorn. January 6th to be exact and I am told I am exactly what a Capricorn should be. Look it up, cos that's me. 24. Really miss my Aikido classes. Fantastic martial art - so graceful, so deadly. Buggered ankles - calcified tendons due to injuries sad 25. Don't do stress, don't get phased by much except maybe by tight fisted people or rude people. And I guess I have a dry sense of humour with a tad too much sarcasm sometimes. Almost perfect then! :bounce:
