Feed the world, let them know it's Christmas time.
Hope I'm not hatede either. Although perhaps hate and love are not a million miles apart.
I don't think it's fair that I've been given a paid membership for nothing and while I think I would like it here (and hopefully be liked) i don't want to be seen as a single guy moron who's only here cos he got it for free.

Hi Matt,
Nice sentiment, but I suspect that's a little unnecessary (and impractical!).
I don't believe this thread is aimed at every single former member to benefit from the free membership, nor do I think it was intended to be "sour grapes" at those regular members now qualifying for free. I think it was more an expression of frustration that no thought or discrimination had been applied to who was being offered the membership, and that therefore the potential existed for lots of time wasters and troublemakers to come back on site at no financial cost to themselves. To that extent, I agree with the thread. However, I'm not sure how any such discrimination could have been easily and fairly applied, so personally I think that the whole concept was perhaps a bad idea from the start. Hopefully time will prove me wrong (it usually does!).
Having said all that, there are lots of former members returning that I'm delighted to see again, and some I've never met before who will doubtless turn out to be valued members of the site again. I don't think anyone ever applied the phrase "moron" to every single returning member (I'll re-read the posts again just to be sure), but there had been a few short-term issues with a few people in chat who HAD been acting like morons, hence the term.

Maybe we should form an S P members union.............I propose Mr MWM for shop steward and then while Mr M is busy I can keep Mrs M company....:giggle::giggle:

LOL...very funny..... and I think Mrs M might be too much for you to handle on your own Northy ;)
I am in no way a union type of guy. But PRINCIPLES are something I like to uphold and being part of this select, and I think special community, I will always be ready to hold up the banner for fair play, decency, common sense and all that stuff.
There is something fundamentally wrong with what has happened here and it seems the owners can't see that. I, for one, have no objection to the free lifetime membership deal to those deserving it - might even be something to look forward to as a loyalty bonus (HINT HINT). I don't even object if free membership was handed out to all and sundry in an effort to introduce new blood BUT the free bit should be limited in time.
Like I said earlier we have a quality site and a load of quality people here and it's worth paying to keep it that way. If nothing else I want to see revenue coming into the site so Admin can keep enhancing the product. You have all contributed to the new feedback forum and the first sticky thread lists almost 30 things you/we all want. And free memberships doesn't pay for that does it.
:bounce:
Ok when I first read this thread I was all for having fun getting to know the old members, must say I have missed some of my old friends, that made it fun on here.
Well my view has totaly changed, I was in chat room today, one profile im not gonna mention names as I have already reported it to admin, but this user was a sfem profile, he popped on cam it was a mane on us ur loaf ffs.
I think a lot of work needs doing and looking back to who they let on and vetting them.
Admin u may do something about this, u are gonna lose a lot of good peeps here.
Pandora if is the same one I am thinking of then I also reported him pretending to be a her...
Anyway, I have been thinking about this issue this evening. Of course SP want to drum up some new business and make some more money by getting some new members on here, but I am still perplexed as to how giving out free lifetime memberships would achieve this? Unless they are counting on them then signing up for the premium extras? Not really sure...
But if it was my business and I wanted to make a bit more dosh during this credit crunch then here are a few of my ideas of how it could have POSSIBLY worked a little better... and they are just ideas... you can either lynch me or agree...lol
1) Of course it is a good idea to reward some long time users of the site in some way. Maybe this could have been achieved by giving them a free years membership for every X number of years they are fully paid up members? Or even after a certain number of years of active membership then give them a lifetime membership. ie some sort of loyalty programme.
2) Instead of giving out free lifetime memberships to all of those who joined in 2005, maybe only give the lifetime memberships to those who have been fully paid members since then or who have been active on the site, ie by checking their established status or do they have comments - this shows they have been active.
3) To those who did join back in 2005 (and yes they are all important and without them we would not have the site) and if they maybe did not fit the criteria above, give them a month or 2 or any set period of time free membership to reel them in. Then when this free period runs out they might have met some people/got addicted to the chatroom/got laid, whatever, so then it is their choice if they choose to pay membership to have access all areas again. This would then at least drum up some new revenue for SP - like free tasters you get in the supermarket.
4) For new members, maybe give them a set short period of free access all areas on the site to reel them in - same principle as above. Then once they are hooked they can choose to cough up some fees if they do so wish.
5) Get some more mods in! Given the issues lately in the chatroom it really would have been useful to have some more SP mods. I only know of 2 or 3 who I see in the chatroom regularly and they have been working tirelessly and thanklessly over the last couple of weeks. So thank you to those who have been really helping out in there lately xxx. But I do really think admin could do with employing some more. Anyone else think this?
Just a few ideas of course - I don't claim to be a marketing genius or anything but something along these lines would have been useful in weeding out some of the less genuine people I and others have been moaning about. At the same time of course it may have weeded out some genuine peeps that possibly just didn't have any luck on the site. But hey you can't please everyone can you. But there are ways to at least please most people I am sure.
Right enough of my 2 cents worth... ahhh fook I reckon I've put in 92 cents worth by now so best shut up now. lol
We dont mind them having free membership we know some peeps who gave up with site last year due to the internal bickering inmy opinion it needs new DNA to keep the chat room alive as it had recently got very up your free offers and kep chatting. A&J penninecpl
Yeh thats fine pennine but the chatroom has been overun with people on free memberships and thats fine for them but i aint payin to be in a minority so i just cancelled my subscriptions.
oh northy !!! You cant leave.
I was speakin to pyro puss she said the same she`s cancelled as well.
everyone cant leave us sob sob sob xxxx
hey norffy you cant leave mate, trust you will still come to mk m8y????
just spoken to florence and zebedee they both agree with you dougall:giggle: xx
I'm curious, I'd like to know just how many free memberships have been handed out. I did a search on premium members and got the result of 561, not many on a site of over 307,800
Of those 561 some will be "freebies", there could have been a lot more "freebies" if everyone who was registered on the site in 2005 had kept their accounts and not unsubscribed, there was over 114,000 registered accounts in December 2005
When we joined SP on our original userid the site claimed over 16,000 users...and recently we received an email for that userid saying we were within the original 400 to have joined the site...:2fingers: no wonder there were only 16 of us in chatroom back then!!!...:bounce:
So how does one become a moderator then?
Must say, we've been in the chatroom a bit recently and don't recognise many names which, in some ways, is a good thing as it's always nice to welcome new members.
However, when countless numbers of them just start saying "get yer tits out on cam" etc, it makes you feel as though the little family of friendships and respect is getting eroded away and what was once warm and welcoming now feels like corporate greed and gloss.
We're happy to put ourselves forward to "police" unwarranted and unwanted attentions though we are stumped as to how you would do this.
Can anyone suggest how you get the star?!

1. make sure that you are 100% committed to not having anymore fun in this site.
2. Be completely ready to be bombarded with everyones problems everytime you enter the chatroom.
3. Be aware that you have to address all those problems along with the other mods everyday in your own time.
4. Have a completely open mind to what picture content is uploaded to the site. (remember the pics in the gallery have all been authorised, you should see what doesn't get through)
5. Don't expect any pay.
6. Don't expect any grattitude (there's only a handfull of people that actually respect what the mods do)
7. Be prepared to have hate campaigns formed against you. (they run for years sometimes)
8. The worst bit is the fact that you have to remain impartial even if it's good friends involved.
9. Join the queue.
On the plus side though you do get an almighty, shiney kick button which kind of over shadows everything else! lol
Only joking Crystal, if you're serious the best thing to do is mail admin and tell them, with the way things are at the moment I wouldn't be suprised if they start recruiting again.
And a couple like you two would get plenty of support.
It might just be us but we think all this recent kerfuffle has given the chat room a badly needed new lease of life, it's been great in there the last couple of nights.
Definitely feels a bit more like it used to be.

You want to be a mod? are you quite mad? Having done the mod thing myself on another site all I can say is never again. I also know others from various sites who have handed back their moderator buttons. Being a mod does tend to take all the fun out of being on a site like this, you will be accused of all sorts of things so a thick skin is required.
If you really are serious about becoming a moderator, then I wish you good luck.
