beating time wasters

Hi, We are rather new to this site (and scene) and am amazed by the huge amount of time wasters and (what we believe) fake profiles... I guess the best way is to get the ladies to talk on the phone first... but we are a bit wary of giving out our number (we actually bought a second mobile to do this but we ended up getting hassled (and test messages all through the night)on that too). Any ideas on how to get around this? (we posted this on Anything goes but guess it should be here)
