Apologies in advance, this is a boring thread but I dont know who else to talk to, and I would really value your advice. Basically I want to know, from 'real people', if they are any good? I've read all the sales speak, and they sound brilliant...But....what is the real story. If, for example, I use the chatroom, would I be 10 minutes behind the conversation? I have been to all the major providers' shops, but I am very dubious of their claims. Are they a viable alternative to cable, or just a convenient extra? Any help, advice, or experience would be very greatly appreciated. Maggie xxx
Maggie, from my Experience using the 3 Mobile Dongle,it isnt very good in the Chatroom,as I have problems viewing the Cams.
Its ok if you just want to Chat,I much prefer being on Broadband through a Cable.
According to 3 Mobile`s Coverage Chart I`m in a Strong Area to recieve it at a fast speed but very rarely get to the Third Bar,(graduated 1 to 5).
Cost wise I`m paying about £15 month for 15GB,but have never actually used my Total beware the Hype I`m now tied into the Contract for 19 another months(24 Month Contract).
If your seriously considering getting a Mobile Dongle go for the ones where you pay Monthly.
Guys,
In my experience they are about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
There handy when you're in a field somewhere or up a tree and you want to send an email but generally they are (currently) just too slow for any serious up/downloads.

I have to say I find them pretty useless for the money. I now personally couldn't live without my wireless broadband. Although I do agree with mwm in the fact that they are good if you are travelling but then just go pay as you go if you want the portability of internet.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:dongles are rubbish 4 this site , we are on 3 dongle and it keeps loosing its signal . the only time its ok is in the bedroom .... if i had a chioce id say no way to dongles on sp they are slow, cams no good to watch n chat is sumtimes 20 mins behind
sorry guys i wouldnt bother , its really frustrating when your chatting to someone and it crashes
I agree with Oli - go for a WiFi Router. If you're using a laptop you'll need a WiFi dongle.

Thanks guys, your comments have been really useful. Cheers Maggiexxx
i have the equivalent of a dongle (the sim etc is inside the notepad) but i also have broadband at home
i am with vodafone for the sim and it is fairly good. I had heard bad things about 3. It is not as fast as broadband so i wouldn't have it as an exclusive option but it does the job and i can view cams in chat ok
:thumbup:I was using my Vodafone dongle whilst in my room the day of the Notts meet.... It was fine and no problem at all even whilst in the chat room... If you get one.. get the content contrl sorted first. I got locked out as this is obviously an over 18s site and I hadn't lifted the content control on my account. Once I spoke to Vodafone, it was 100% operational ....
Jay whats the cost like compared to the 3 Mobile?
Is the Speed any better than 3?
Deb...
Right now I pay 15 pounds for unlimited internet with Vodafone. Some of the guys at my work use 3, so we will test the speeds at the same time since we are in a good location signal wise. I think on of the guys has a dongle from O2..... But not sure. Will let you know Deb xx
mine is a 2 yr contract debs and i got a Dell notepad included (they say free but of course there is no such thing lol) for £20 a month
