My two pennies worth.
No complaints handing out free memberships to those members that helped to develop and build the site and the community. Maybe lifetime is a bit over the top, but then it's SP's money.
I have a big issue with free memberships to just anyone who happened to use the site back in 2005. There are enough wasters on the site as it is. What on earth were you thinking? No vetting process? To me that says you really don't give toss about the current membership.
Paying a membership fee means something. Yes it's money in the bank for SP but it has worth and value to the members too. The more revenue SP raises allows re-investment into this site and community. All the things we ask for in Feedback require money to be invested (salaries if nothing else). Giving away memberships is dumb; we want improvements and enhancements and it takes investment (money).
So FREE membership helps no one (paid or free members) and unless I'm missing something it does nothing for SP...except increase the 'live users' of the site. Why would they want to boost numbers and do it quickly? Any ideas people? Yeah, I had the same idea too!
We looked at numerous FREE sites and they are either crap or just average. We have also looked at and joined several other paid sites that are also crap. So I am not saying that paying membership creates a quality site but it does eliminate the less 'serious' from bothering. Remember the old adage "you get what you pay for".
SP is a good site, one of the best we've ever used and I think it's worth the membership. I like the idea that we can contact like-minded people who are also paying members and have the same or similar values to us. I also like the idea that GUESTS (free members) should be entirely temporary and that their profiles are taken offline after a SHORT trial period (1 month is long enough) and that their functionality is very limited (they can look but not touch).
Personally I prefer to stay in quality hotels, drive a good car, drink nice wine, wear nice clothes and so on and I expect to pay for those things. The price tag for a 5 star life is...well, 5 stars. I don't want to stay in a 2 star place, or drive a 1967 Lada, shop at Matalan and drink Asda own brand lemonade - not even if it's free. I pay to ensure I get some exclusivity and some like minded thinking. And now I don't know that I'm getting that.
And for the record, if I have offended anyone who is now a premium member but a freebie, worry not - that is not the intention. My gripe is purely with SP not you.
My final words are addressed to SP: I suspect this issue wont simply fade away so if/when you respond to this thread on an official basis may I suggest you offer an explanation as to why you decided on this course and what you expected would be the outcome and more importantly the benefits.
Also, assuming you are not simply selling the site(s) and you do want growth I am more than happy to do some research for you on marketing and advertising agencies that have experience in your area and can help grow the business - just ask.

This is free LIFETIME membership??? I hadn't spotted that; I thought it was just for a year. Oh ffs - it gets worse!

Yes Suds hun and you joined a mere month after we did, so I've no idea why you didn't get the upgrade to life membership. I would mail them and get that put right straight away if you haven't already done so xxx It all seems very hit and miss Admin and we agree with everything that has been said above.
We got it and are hardly going to moan about it and refuse it. BUT.... a big BUT here as well.
Would it not have been better to have made the improvements to the site as people have requested rather than lose so much revenue giving out thousands of free lifetime memberships?
I think you're now going to see a whole lot more very genuine and real members leaving because of this which is a very sad thing indeed.

Increasing "live users" boosts page hits and traffic impoving ranking on search engines, the further up the search results a site appears increases the chance the site may recruit new members

I agree to a point on "you get what you pay for" but it's not always true. Paying a membership does not guarantee quality there are some morons out there with more money than sense.

Not every one can afford the 5 star lifestyle, I for one can't. I've been out of work since 2002 on health grounds, I have end stage renal failure and require dialysis. I have to prioritise where my money goes, do I pay membership and sit at home every night because I'm skint or do I use it to actualy get out an meet people, not much point in paying to be on a swingers site if I cannot afford to meet any one.

The owners of SP Symbios Group also own another swinging site, now this is pure supposition they are bringing the membership policy into line with their other site. Members there who joined prior to December 2005 where promised and given free lifetime membership when Symbios acquired the site which had previously been a free site.
You know what , its done, lets not dwell on it. Lets have get to know new people that come into the chatroom as we have done for a long long time. We never got free membership either cos we had a break for a couple mnths, but I cant do anything about that , so stop mumping the lot of you and start to enjoy again.
People come and go no matter if they paid, have ever paid, never paid etc etc its how the site works. Whats done is done and none of us can change it now.
Rant over..... bet u lot wont miss my ramblings at all, gonna make CC post them for me from canada lol
I go away for a few days to do something on another site :bounce:
Stop bickering, if the site does not have new membership (however it arrives on the site, free or paying) it will stagnate, and there won't be any one to shag etc etc
As some one has already said the iditos will get bored or banned with in a few weeks.
Drink anyone
For the past few days, I have been thinking of writing a thread about profiles and how often they are updated, but having read all the above comments about membership, I think I have got my questions answered.
We are relatively new, by the way, full members and genuinely interested in exploring the swinging lifestyle. I, Maggie, try to visit the chatroom at quieter times, but feel very shy and end up saying nothing cos everyone else seems to know each other, and in the evenings...well, I just give up cos it moves too fast for me to keep up!! We are still feeling our way and trying to learn the etiquette.
Sorry, I'm dgressing.... Yes, Profiles....We have recently been getting lots of views from people who have been members since 2005, yet say in their profiles that they are new and inexperienced....I couldn't understand why? I thought that it was just because they hadn't bothered to update their profiles. Now, having read about lots of members from 2005 returning to the site, it all makes sense.
Still...I wish some would keep their profiles up to date, cos for beginners like us, its all we have to go on initially.
Madchick and carlshell... my issues raised were by no mean meant meant to offend anyone or make anyone feel unwelcome. If it did so then that was not my intent and I apologise.
As I said in my later post above, this was definitely a good way to get some of the older members back to the site and I have seen many of them welcomed in the chatroom. My issue is not with these people or with you.
I do understand both your points of view but if you were to re-visit the chatroom you would see what a complete zoo it has become lately.
Madchick - if you think it was bad like you said when you left then you wouldn't even recognise it now and also, I have read and enjoyed many of your forum posts in the past and I promise I am not doing a truescorpio on you! lol. I just raised an issue that had become a sore point in the chatroom lately for many people, just not myself so I didn't raise these issues to cause any arguments or offense. So please do not let me scare you off!
Maybe those who have griped did not intend to 'upset' (for want of a better word) the oldies that have come back to SP due to a life time free membership.
But..... for those of you that have been griping and whinging.......... then do it directly to SP Admin and give your exact grievences.
I for one have seen more of a zoo on this site in the past, than most of you could ever imagine. I stayed with this site through good and bad and from the beginning. I had free membership then paid membership, I've swung, made friends, organised parties and had my say on many issues affecting this site and its members.
I do NOT expect to be the subject of sour grapes - whether intentioned or not - by people with noting better to do than get the grumps because they don't like what the OWNERS of this site have done.
There are many other sites out there, most a dam sight more expensive than this one, some free, some good and many bad. If you like this site and you have fun on it and with it...........is there a problem? No............
If anyone has an issue with 2005 joiners who have not been active on here or single men who are complete halfwits, then take the gripe direct to symbiosis........
As far as I can tell......... it's their site, they can do as they please with it.
People who whinge and whine because others are seen to be getting something they are not do not scare me. I am big enough and ugly enough to make up my own mind and definately old enough to realise who will eventually become my friend and who will not.
Yes.... I read this and thought...... why should I bother? Yes I read this and the rantings in the chatroom the other night and thought...... here we go again. But it will be my choice if I stay or go........
I won't be pushed by people who seem to think they have a god given right to boo hoo all over the place because something isn't going their own sweet way.
I and other oldies are back....... whether or not we stay is a matter for discussion at the moment.
I hope you whingers are all proud of yourselves, you may just have pushed some extremely good people away from here.
can see why this has stirred up a hornets nest,we have no probs with peeps that have paid up since 2005 being made life members, but what have free members done for this site, surely its the paid up members that keep this site going,we have missed all the agro in the chatroon thank god,but the trouble makers will soon get found out,but this does answer one question that has had me puzzled, and that this does explain the latest influx of peeps adding us to their favs list, and we have not even spoken to them, let alone know them,
still we are sure this will all come out in the wash,
love you all,
Kat n Neil aka the bays xxxxx
I have actually bought this issue and this thread to the attention of admin as my gripe is with them and I have made clear. I did this as I knew I was not the only one who had this issue. I just raised it in the forums in order for people to voice their own opinions on the subject in one place so that admin can see for themselves. It is completely up to individual people if they agree or disagree with me I don't mind and believe me I am not here for an argument. I just wanted to bring to light an obvious issue that many paying members have had.
FREE LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP I need to leave coz I hate paying for things whilst I`m on BENEFIT.
ADMIN can I have a REDUCTION please I`m ON Incapacity Benefit, and will be for another year, thinkig half price for peeps on Benefits should be fair & get the Free Members to pay for access to the Chatroom.
lol debs... good luck with that xxx
I completely agree. While i have been a member on here for a few years, but not fullypaid, i recently subscribed paying the full amount only to learn others get it free. However, I suppose what you dont have you dont miss!
ok our thoughts!!!!!
firstly we agree that it is ludicrous!! give free memberships to those that support the site and as a loyalty bonus if they have been PAYING members since that date , those that joined on the free membership status or that reduced themselves to the free members status then in our opinion should NOT have received this loyalty bonus, they obviously left for a reason , same as those that didnt pay never liked it enough to start with!!
if you left and have only come back because its free then you couldnt have been that bothered about it in the first place, could you ???
admins response that the free membership is to those who helped establish the site is bullshit!! how can they have helped establish it if they was on free memberships and didnt contribute to the site???
those cheapskates returning becuase its free then try remember why you left the site in the first place!!!
personally we welcome all , new and old as long as the same lines of decency and respect are adhered too but why will some (not all) give a toss about the rules when its free for life????
for the amount of people now frequenting the chatroom then the number of mods needs to be increased(not volunteering) and these mods should be helped out as their task in keeping some control is escalating out of control
so to finish , we welcome new and old members and look forward to making some new pervy friends, we agree with a loyalty bonus for those that have paid and kept paying since 2005, WE DO NOT AGREE WITH FREEBIES FOR THOSE THAT STOPPED PAYING OR NEVER PAID
oli ur thread is worthy of the forum and your points are valid as the responses show and it is a forum so you and the rest of us have every right to air our views, gripes or whinging(as some people refer to them)in this the correct place
cant see how support can do anything about it now so maybe we grit our teeth and bare it and hope the not so polite ones get bored and crawl back under that 2005 stone from whence they were last seen

I am one of the fortunate members who have recently been granted free lifetime membership in recognition of continuing support of the site over the years ..... pretty much from day one ...... thank you SP Admin ..... it is very refreshing for SP Admin to recognise and say thank you for supporting the site. How many of the other members can make a similar claim? As for one of your members branding those of us who have been given this privelege as 'morons' I personally find this to be highly offensive and would suggest it smacks of jealousy. I have enjoyed many swinging experiences through this site over the years and I look forward to this continuing.
I agree with the comments about the deteriation of the standards in the Chat Room but blaming those such as myself is unfair. Maybe the room moderators can take a stronger view of the comments being made ..... particulary where directing of cams is taking place and the comments are so crude as to be offensive.
Don't let petty jealousy spoil the fun for all.
Maybe the room moderators can take a stronger view of the comments being made ..... particulary where directing of cams is taking place and the comments are so crude as to be offensive.
I can assure you that we take a very dim view of directing and inappropriate comments or behaviour.
However as i have pointed out in the past it is not purely a moderation issue- you are all members and can explain to folks what is not acceptable. You can also report abuse!!! - preferably with specific details.
Not everyone knows how the chat room works (even though there is an explanation) and some do take a little help with understanding.
One thing i am particularly fed up with is the lack of tolerance and understanding given by members. Some folks are trying to exploit the chat room for intentions that go against the rules but others who mistakenly say the wrong thing are being pounced upon immediately. We need to give folks a little space, explain where they are going wrong and, if they don't correct behaviour, THEN deal with them appropriately.

I reckon I can as well...........
And do ya know...... Puss was the very first person to speak to me when I was a newbie to the site and a fairly nervous single female!
lol maddie see how things have changed .......... me of course I still am shy and quiet.
I'm one of the lucky few to be given this free lifetime membership and can completely understand why all the premium guys are upset.
I signed up once a few years ago out of curiousity but didn't come back because I couldn't do anything for free and didn't have the spare cash to pay for it.
To get an email out of the blue 3 years later offering lifetime membership is odd and I thought it was a scam, and I don't see any other website doing it.
I don't think it's fair that I've been given a paid membership for nothing and while I think I would like it here (and hopefully be liked) i don't want to be seen as a single guy moron who's only here cos he got it for free.
I don't know if this is possible but I would happily donate my lifetime free membership to someone more deserving in exchange for a months free unlimited access to give me time to decide if i want to pay for membership or not.
That way, someone gets lifetime membership, i'm not hated and sp gets a new member. Everyones a winner?
