I know I need to get out more but the new "Members that may interest you" sparked an idea. Why is it that the same people keep appearing on it time after time?
So I thought I'd check the numbers. The site says we have a total of registered users of 321,852. However....if you do a search for premium members (no other filtering) these are the results as at 10/09/09 (09:53):-
Couples - 30 profiles per page, 33 pages plus 10 on page 34 = 1000 exactly.
Single Males - 33 pages plus 9 on last page = 999.
Single Females - also 33 pages plus 8 on page 34 = 998.
So the total registered premium membership is 2997. That's less than 1% of the total.
Makes you wonder huh?
:bounce:
Nah, the results are limited to 1000 ;)
OK, I believe you. So what are the actual numbers then?
:bounce:
Registered
Total Users: 321856
Registered

Doh!
Actual numbers of PAID MEMBERS by ...
Couples...
Single females..
Single males.
:bounce:
MWM I`m down as a Male but most of my Girlfriends class me as a Fem so i`m half and half = 2 so thats the discrepancy.
Does that Help?
Yeah we know how many registered members there are... but how many PAID PREMIUM members??? Just curious...
Aren't statistics great, but do you actually believe them. Statistics can be manipulated and interpreted in ways that quite often give the desired result.
Take the total registered users, most people assume that the current entries in the user database is how many members the site has. Well it isn't so. How many folks here have more than one account? quite a few. Couples can often have 3, his, hers and their account. Lots have been abandoned ages ago and never removed as the user left.
They don't Cey... I am just being curious.
I find that sort of thing a bit annoying to be honest.. it was a cop-out response from Monkfish who knew exactly what you were driving at MWM...
*tsk* to Monkfish
I'm always curious about this sort of thing too... They just don't want us knowing how many non-paying members there are.
*pah*
:happy::happy::happy::happy::happy:
ok ok so you're all curious, I guess we're not lol which is why we're not that worried who pays or not, which is of course why I asked.
We wouldn't meet anyone who was a free member anyway I guess, as there's still plenty of paying ones to go around lol.
Sooooooo
Ceys
I pondered it from a different direction so think about it this way ....
- How many people venture into the chatroom?
- How many people add stuff to the forums?
- How many people attend socials?
From my experience over the last 18 months, I'd estimate that there are somewhere in the region of a couple of hundred very active members on an ongoing basis who can tick some or all of those boxes - notwithstanding a bit of churn in terms of oldies going and newbies coming of course.
So let's be generous and maybe quadruple it for members who email, meet etc but don't use the chatroom, forums or really bother with socials etc.
So that takes you up to somewhere near 1,000 members at best who at any one time are, er, 'in the market' so to speak.
From having done the odd member search with filters like premium members and distance from location, you rarely got more than a three or four pages of results before you get to the 'more than 2 weeks ago' members. They may still be paid but many of them clearly aren't on very much, if at all. So you are looking at maybe 30-40 possibles within a 30-50 mile catchment. Multiply that round the country and again, I reckon you are looking at upwards of 500 but not much more than 1,000.
As has been mentioned, stats can be used to tell all sorts of stories but we all know the reality from actually being involved with the site.
Either way, I don't think it matters. For one thing, I like the fact that there is a core group that you can get to know with a bit of effort - makes the social side what it is... especially as there are lots of lovely peeps on here! Secondly, unless you are literally 'at it' every weekend, there are plenty of members to keep things interesting .... Oli and I have still got a very long 'hit-list!!' lol
The stats, numbers of members (paid and free), pages generated by all the profiles etc are all part of how the site is marketed and I don't really pay much attention to it - trial and personal experience gives you a better steer.
Personally, I get more fed up with the reams and reams and reams of single females that pop up in the galleries that are sooooo obviously fakes. I honestly never knew there were so many attractive, model like women, gagging for a shag (according to their direct profile wordings) who live in the extremities of the country like Aberdeen and Exeter as well as all those from the USA that are on a mainly UK site.... very strange indeed but such is the randomness of the interwebulator I guess.....

Blimey LL, wasn't expecting a essay! Well done though!
Just for clarification...We're not interested in who has paid or not but we are interested in premium members as the free members have limited access and are therefore by default useless.
I started the thread because of the new 'members that may interest you' and was intrigued by the number of times we see the same profiles time after time. That made me do a few searches and I found that there is a very high percentage of Free Members...so all I wanted to know was how many of each category there are that are premium members.
But as you say, even if we knew that figure it would probably have no value as so many members appear to have fallen off the cart "in the last fortnight".
Maybe all we need is a filter that allows us to toggle (on/off) seeing Free Member profiles?
But then again Monkfish's bland response is like waving a red rag to a bull, so I think I want to know a bit more now.
If you search for single females and only filter with photos and premium membership (important for us at least) the result is under Admin's 1000 limit and returns 570. Add another filter level of looking for a couple with a bi-fem and that reduces to 317. Of those 317 only 40 appear to be 'active'. This figure I believe.
All in all I just don't believe the 321,985 number. Or should I say it doesn't ring true with how it feels. Like you I think a smaller committed community is actually better than a humongous group of impersonal strangers but as I said, we'll never really know cos Admin seem to think BIG numbers will attract more members....which I happen to think is quite the opposite of reality. IMHO of course!
:bounce:
Crikey:crazy: my head hurts now.
Yeah... I'm over there with CC.... my head doesn't hurt over there.
Besides... it not like we could shag 300000+ members anyway. I would need a girl bits transplant ffs :giggle:
Well I am very good at adding up - I mean I do it for a living but on here I just want dirty naughty fun.
May I join you both? lol xxxx
 in the middle of cc and oli... sod the other three hundred thousand members then
:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:
OK, you win. I give up.
:bounce:
The answer is 42....
Now, who needs a good seeing to?
