Hi Bibi. Yes, there are a few things that you can do to transfer them. Software from Pinnacle or Adobe (premier) will both do the trick. The main problem is the hardware to connect your video machine to your pc. As videos are analogue, you will need a convertor. (You can get these for about £40 from pinnacle and other places. - I will find ya the name soon), but easily the most successful and easy way to do it is to use a dvd recorder that plugs into your TV. These are quite cheap now and if you just plug your video into them, you can burn directly to dvd with no loss of quality. Will let ya know about the converter soon as i found it.

omg that came over a sarcasem soooo sorry thats not howit was meant but i did meen audio casset to cd. xxxxx
Bibi,
Now you mention that it's audio tapes you want to transfer, here's what I do - hope it's of help.
I don't transfer tape to CD via the computer: instead, I use an audio-CD recorder plugged into the back of my stereo amplifier in the "Tape 2" or "Aux" input and output. This makes it possible to transfer not only tapes onto CD, but any source, be it record, tape or another CD (even audio from the TV, DVD or video if you link up your TV to the amp with a basic phono lead!). The only thing to be careful of is that you'll only get the sound quality of the original source, so if you want to transfer a tape that suffers from bad hiss, or a record which is scratched or noisy, this is the kind of sound quality to expect on your CD copy.
If you're familiar with hi-fi chain Richer Sounds, they are the best place to get one without being ripped off. I think they have a few models, priced at between £150 - £200.
As for the tape to PC option, sorry I can't help on that one!

PS - J&K - Sorry I can't answer the firewire question! I haven't quite got that far (technologically) myself yet either! Chat to you both soon xxxx

HI J and k Not sure why you are asking how you do it without fire wire as most puters do have a fire wire connection on them but if you reply then If i dont know I will try and find out for you
J - Check out the connections on your graphics card...it maybe that you have a video in port that you can use to transfer from external vid sources. N...
Hi Marc & N,
All laptops have firewire - for some reason my two month old £1000 desktop doesn't! I actually bought a firewire PCI card to slot in - unfortunately I don't actually have a spare PCI slot - there's another one there, might be ISA? (two short connection slots?)
As for video in ports - there's an RS232 type port and a circular 8 pin port. No firewire anywhere.....
Any ideas? What about USB2? Does that work? I've emailed Sony (makers of the camcorder) but no answer yet. Also emailed PC maker and no reply there, either.
Any help would be most welcome - as really want to transfer some horny film to DVD!!!!!
J
Hi j_and_k
Sorry about that, not really sure about doing it without firewire. As MG said, USB is too slow. (USB 2 - which most modern computers have is actually faster than firewire, but it cannot regulate its speed and you might find that your dv goes all weird in the middle of trasferring)
The only other way is by transferring onto dvd using a dvd recorder although if you haven't already got one, its an expensive option.
Acutally - anotherway and by far easier is to get someone off here to transfer it for you. It can then be put onto a dvd with raw footage for you to edit on your laptop. Im sure someone on here would be happy to help.
If i can find any other way i will let you know
cheers

HI Marc and Gnome,
I'm sure someone would love to get their hands on the footage...... however, for the moment it will remain private!!! :doggy: :doggy:
However, I have discovered that both camcorder and PC have a S-video socket so have ordered a cable costing a massive £8!
Has anyone used an S-video cable before and can give advice?
Thanks for all help so far.
J xx
Agree mith MG. Pinnacle 10 excellent program for editing. Also adobe Premier for editing and Adobe Encore for mastering to DVD are great. Sorry dont really know anything about s-video apart from it was the best standard fr quite a long while.
cheers!
Hi Marc,
Those auction houses only deal with items of a higher value! Not sure Ebay could manage!!! lol lol lol
Well, I got the cable, connected it, opened Media PLayer, read the instructions, and could I get a picture??? could I hell!!!!
Anyone got any ideas???
J
Frustrated as hell! :fury:
Hi Bibi,
I found a website that says its software will take your old audio casettes and vinyls and record onto CD or even MP3!
sine I cannot past the link on this site, suggest you type "accoustica(dot)com" and then look for produt name "spin it again"
I cannot vouch for the site or what cables you will need but the blurb says it has a "hook-up wizard" which will ask you a series of questions about your kit (no not your choice of clothing!) - presumably it will tell you what cables etc you need to have!
all the best - and it you get it to work, can my dad send you his 78s for conversion (you laugh - but he has some 16s as well!)
luv and hugs
cas
Hi Bibi
Do a search on the internet for MUSICMATCH 6.0 this will allow you to capture audio into a wav file on your pc. (Its completely free)
Once you have the wav file, it depends on what cd burner you are using. Most will allow you to burn audio cd's. (Nero definately does)
Just drag the wav files and it will convert them to a format ready for your cd. then burn it.
Hope this helps
Hi thegnomeathome
I am not saying it bout musicmatch but do be carefull bout FREE programes you may already know quite a lot of the the ones that look more reputable do have some nasty things they bury in your as we all know you dont get out for nowt

Absolutely! Totally agree with this Marc, adware is rife amongst most free program downloads that you can get off the internet. This prog though, as far as i know, is the free version of a professional program which you can pay for and the creators use it to get you to upgrade. Ive had it on my machine for a few months with no problems. So should be ok hopefully.
But in general, Marcs advise is spot on. Best thing to do is to run a search on google before downloading and see if anyone has written about the program containing virus/adware/malware etc. You can never be too careful.

Cara, at a modest cost, I can convert your dad's 78s to CD! As a record collector, I do it for myself all the time.
Can't convert Speed 16 though - haven't seen a deck which plays them since the mid-70s! Weren't they intended for spoken word only, as the wow and flutter experienced at such a slow speed would have made it crap on the ears for music?
