What's with all the negativity on this site lately? It's summer, the sun is shining, shouldn't we all be happy and enjoying ourselves?
I will freely admit that the chatroom can be clicky sometimes - OK maybe even more than just sometimes, but I think that could be because a very large proportion of people who go into the chatroom are chat regulars and many have all known each other in some way or another for quite some time.
When I first started going into chat no one talked to me at all and I was ready to give up. Then finally one or two of the regulars took pity on this lonely single girl and started talking to me. But that was only after I put in a lot of effort.
I have heard a lot of people moan in the past that no one talks to them in chat. But seriously, if all you do is go in there and say nothing but 'hi everyone' and then just sit there, say nothing else and expect everyone else to strike up a conversation with you then you are sorely mistaken.
I see the chatroom in the same way I see any other social situation. If you went to a party where you knew no one, or you moved house and discovered your new local pub, would you expect everyone to come up and say hello to you and start a conversation with you when all you have done is sit at the bar and sip your pint without making the effort? I think not.
Yes I do go in the chatroom and have a conversation with a friend in there in the open chat. But quite often I could be having 2 or 3 simultaneous conversations with other people as well. Sometimes the chat does move so quickly it is easy to miss an instance when someone has said hello to me directly or asked me something. And this happens to everybody. Rarely have I heard of anyone ignoring someone on purpose.
I personally always try and make the effort with newbies and say hello, as I was a newbie once myself (as we all were - even the golden oldies of SP), and know what it's like.
But SP is like anything else in life - you get out what you put in. So please stop all the moaning about 'no one talks to me' if all you do is sit in the chatroom watching everyone else chat while not joining in yourself. If you are new, of course you don't know anyone. So my advice is to wait until a conversation is going that you feel you can jump into. It's not like you would be interrupting because we all do it like that. And it does take some time to get to know new people, just like anywhere else.
So just dive in head first and enjoy!
OK off me soap box now. lol

That's a very good point Midgie... sometimes I go into chat and just sit there and say nothing. No one talks to me either when I do that and a lot of peeps in there know me. But sometimes I just go in there for a nosey anyway. :bounce:

I think it would be better if we enjoyed EACH OTHER!
:P
Well of course that's what I meant Mr Hots....:bounce:
oh I dunno ...
become a mod - then you get ignored all the time! :evil2: :evil2:
Not the good mods like you ali lol xxx
Cant say I ever found the chatroom particularly cliquey (yes that is how you spell it!) or unwelcoming.
It was probably the fact I had so much fun on my first night in there that made me stick around - and I'm jolly glad I did.
I like the fact that people on here are friends with each other beyond swinging - it makes a change from another swingign site I could mention where the chatroom consists of one person after another saying: "Hi anyone from xyz"....yaaaawn!
Being an incurable tart and a gobshite helps in the chatroom of course
Oh stop with your bleedin spelling lessons tee..... is bleedin a word??? pmsl
ok sorry not drinking anymore lol lov u alll xxx
believe that sonny when i see it.
u horny fooker.
lvu ya

It allways has been cliquey
Its too fast when busy to read msgs sometimes blink and u miss it suggest you say things a few times. we get frequent crashes too and struggling to remember to click names for pm then back to general chat is a problem... often embarrassing too
Never found it Clickey,I just say Hi to peeps,Sonny get the wine out xx
Never found it cliquey at all. As with most things, you only get out of it what you put in.

Wise words Swing
Hi all,
As a relatively new (single male) member (about 6 months) I would not say the chat room is cliqay. Yes there are cliques but people come out of their cliques to talk to people who make the effort.
So what should you do?
DON'T PANIC!!!
Try to join in, people don't bite!!!!
Enjoy yourself - thats what your here for!
Try to get on cam, A head and shoulder shot is fine. It doesn''t have to be a "full frontal" shot. (sorry midgie! ;) )
Don't expect instant results! If you think about what we are supposedly here for and imgagine walking into a strange pub, it would take time to build up the trust necessary for this. Why should this site be any different?
From my point of view I would like to say thanks to: -
The people who say Hi and Bye as I log on and off.
The established members who tollerated then encoraged me to gate crash their conversations.
The members who explained the abbreviations and emoticoms ( why can't we have them on the page like in the forums? And don't get me started on the multicam debate!)
The members who pmsl ed my poor attempts at humour in order to fit in.
The mods who provided help and support when required - in some cases above and beyond the call of duty.
Everyone who I have chatted with.
Yes chat rooms can be heart breaking - you assume that everyone is chatting and arranging meets whilst you are left on the outside. And yes conversly poeple do whisper (with permission) in the chat room.
a couple of final points, don't forget the people you are talking to are real people and not inaminate sexual objects; they have needs and security concerns as well. Treat them curteously and with respect and it will go a long way to integrating you into the chat room.
Read the posts on chat room protocols - they are very good advice, stop you from being unessecerilly embarrassed and keep chat fun for everyone.
Have fun and look forward to seeing you in the chat room.

very wise comments org take a bow ! oh n become a mod then see how many people talk to you reduces tenfold!!
I dont think I will become a mod then.............i'm lucky if 2 peeps talk to me, so that will put me at minus 8. Cant be having that!!!
