OK - you've all watched "10", so Bolero's probably old-hat now (although it IS pretty good!), but following a discussion that came up in chat this evening I wondered if there were any favourite classical music pieces to make love to? I'll probably get accused of being too highbrow by some - but bollox to you smile Basic rules to this thread - definition of "classical" excludes things like Mantovani, James Last, "Titanic" theme music (or similar). I'm looking for Mahler; I'm looking for Prokofiev; I'm looking for Beethoven; I'm looking for anything along those lines. (And yes, Ravel's Bolero IS allowed) Try out peoples suggestions. If you've never heard of the piece they suggest, download it and try it out ! You might be surprised :) My own choices .... 1. Richard Strauss - "Beim Schlafengehen" from "4 Last Songs"; orgasmic, erotic, sensual singing. Try the Kiri Te Kanawa version. If you aren't actually having sex and just want to get emotional, this makes me cry every time too - don't mind admitting it ! 2. Chausson - "Finale" from "Concert pour Piano, Violin & String Quartet" - this builds and builds, and the final chord is just begging for an orgasm !! 3. Ravel - Bolero. Okay, I know it's a hackneyed choice, but hey - it really is superb in this category ! Perfect length too :) I could go on, but I'll get SERIOUS delusions of grandeur if I do. Come one folks - there must be other classical music lovers out there who know what turns them on ..... Suds
This all depends on how energetic you are, if you want an enjoyable romantic experience I suggest the Ivor Novello classic 'Will You Remember', (sweetheart, sweatheart, sweatheart) or Beethovens 'Romance For Violin and Orchestra' in F major,Op50. To the other extreeme whereby if you really want to blow your mind and everything else I would suggest the 1812 overture, timing your climax to the firing of the cannons, Yeah !! But by far the best will always be Ravels Bolero Teecee
I love Moonlight sonata by Beethoven its so romantic and dark......♥ I also love Storm by vannesa mae... its a great one to shag too very energetic......... Another fairly good one is Vivaldi Le Quattro Stagioni (Four Seasons) There is also Bach Cello Suite No.1 i-Prelude its wonderful..... Think im going off on one now ha ha i so love classical music and opera....Madame Butterfly Mikado i could go on and on BUT i wont SUDS he he xxxx Luv ya ♥
Bach's Tocatta and Fugue - (for the organ)?
I can't think of any suds i've missed out on this kind of music, so could you pls come play some for me as im sure a little bird told me once you used to play in a well known pub band oppss me Orchestra  mwah MO XX Infact i think i have the superman song somwhere i wonder if that might do it :haha:
Nut Cracker Suite ?? biggrin
Good thread!!! Has to be the Cadenza from the 1st movement of Rachmaninovs 3rd Piano Concerto if you're feeling energetic. The confutatis from Mozarts Requiem Mass if you're in a bad mood. Verdi's Pater Noster if you're feeling spiritual. Debussy Clair de Lune or Chopins Raindrop Prelude if you're feeling sensitive. Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 if you fancy a giggle! And sorry Sudsy but i don't agree with you dissallowing modern composers because Hans Zimmer is a bloody genius and the majority of his music would be great in the bedroom!!
Cadenza from the Rach 3rd concerto? You'd have to be quick biggrin lmao Good music though. I didn't explicitly exclude modern composers. If people like Knussen, Messiaen, Korngold, Shrenek etc. float your boat, then go for it. John Williams and Carl Jenkins (and even Michael Nyman) are fine modern composers too, who manage to be populist but not trivial, and yes - I'd probably include Hans Zimmer in that category as well. I just don't think that James Horner or others like him, who write essentially film music wih perhaps a hit "pop" song, really qualify. Like I said in the opening post, I'm a self-confessed classical snob (actually, I didn't say that, but I should have done). It's a personal thing, and of course lots of people are going to disagree. That's part of the reason for me posting this thread at all - I'm willing to be persuaded myself (as you've done with Zimmer smile )
MO - I'll run my fingers over your ivories any time babe xxxxxxxx
I remember one that I used to love and it used to send tingles down my spine. Haven't heard it for years and years. All I can remember is that it was 'The Planets' and 'Jupiter'. Suds you might know it or remind me of the title lol.
Good choice ceylon I think you are thinking of the 'Jupiter Suite' by Holst. Beautiful
Ceylon - you got it right. The piece is "The Planets Suite", by Gustav Holst, and the particular track you mention is called "Jupiter - The Bringer of Jollity". Lovely, optimistic, happy track, with a big fat tune at the end (which was also used for the hymn "I vow to thee my country" ). If you're after driving, pulsating rhythm and a great climax, though - try "Mars - The Bringer of War" from the same suite. And afterwards, for a bit of post-coital slumber, "Venus - The Bringer of Peace" smile
God I now feel like a total idiot. But I do like Il Divo does that count?? Sorry suds but that was the best I could do xxxx
Ok Sudsy, if we're playing classical snobs, I can't believe that you haven't picked up on the fact that none of the composers mentioned so far are actually "classical" composers! Beethoven maybe if you want to be picky! (but really he's the link man between the classical and romantic eras!) I may have to check the list again to make sure, and I'm very probably wrong....... But that's coz I'm drunk! My bad! Think I'm right tho!! lol:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:
Although Sudsy, If you want a real musical orgasm look up Parry's Songs of Farewell. Don't know if you're into choral stuff but he really nailed it with that suite!
Cadenza from the Rach 3rd concerto? You'd have to be quick biggrin lmao
Jesus I thought I was holding back!! lol
Love choral music (used to sing with the London Philharmonic Choir), and I've recorded some Parry ("Lotos Eaters", "Blest Pair of Sirens" etc). Don't know that one though - I must look it up. Sorry about the "classical" definition - yes, technically you're right - post-Beethoven is edging into "Romantic" territory, but Im usin "classical" in its marketing sense (e.g. stuff you'd find in the Gramophone Classical Catalogue). So, Britten, Shostakovich, Prokofiev etc clearly aren't "classical" in the purist sense, but they are "classical" in the stylistic sense. This is where I send myself rapidly to pseuds corner, because, of course, many of the composers I'm "banning" also write in the classical style (i.e. orchestral-based, or choral). What can I say? I'm fickle biggrin
Fruit - "Il Divo" ..... ??? Go and sit in the corner and don't move again until I tell you that you can come out ! biggrin
:doh:Sorry sir
Fruit :inlove:
Love choral music (used to sing with the London Philharmonic Choir)
Wow I'm really impressed! Only spoken to you a couple of times but i'm putting money on you being a baritone? Where were you in the choir? Tenor or bass?? Look up 'The vasari singers' If you get a chance, their director is a genius.
Sorry, don't do classical music, but my favourite shag track has to be Sweet Child of Mine - Guns and Roses (long version). Carl
Yay, a bit of classical snobbery, I love it :-) For some foursome fun, go for an interesting string quartet, perhaps Bartok's 3rd or 4th. Amazing music, and it would keep you all on your toes. I think there is great variety in Messiaen's Turangalila (sp?) - that might be intriguing to have sex to. If you've seen Nijinsky's original choreography to Le Sacre you'll be inspired to make love to that. Which I suppoe you really should do anyway! So much more.. Nice one Sudsy, a very interesting thread :-)
Turangalila ?? Are you insane ??? biggrin Hmmm - that's GOT to say something about your sexual preferences, just not sure what ! lol What position does an Ondes Martenot suggest to you ...? I don't know the Bartok - I should try that really. So much of his music is fantastic, and his chamber music isn't something I've ever listened to. I'll add it to my list. Le Sacre ... ? Sure - if you've got the energy ! :evil2:
Verdi's Pater Noster if you're feeling spiritual.
Mork - tried it, loved it biggrin Great recommendation.
Sudsy, the Ondes Martenot is the flux, the oil to lubricate the pounding meats :-) I have to say thet the middle three of Bartok's quartets are the best pieces of music I've ever heard. In fact, having sex to them might spoil them! Yeah, I'd try just listening to them first... No, I haven't got the energy for Spring - good point. What about Carmina Burana? Now that's something we actually have had sex to. and a lot of the lyrics are very bawdy too (apparently!)
:cheers::cheers::cheers: Well being a sophisticated northern bloke im well up on me clasical music drinkies I would have to time my shaggin to "Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner:violin::violin::violin: I luv the smell of pussy in the mornin... and afternoon ..... and night lol :devil::devil:
